The material you will find here has been produced by selected Government of Canada departments and non-governmental bodies in order to help young people learn about the War of 1812 and its importance to the Canada we know today.

A nation's values, cultural and political understandings and growth are often intimately bound to its military history. Through valour, defence, loss and peacekeeping we have written a distinctly Canadian military history that has helped shape us into the nation we are today. The University of Calgary Libraries and Cultural Resources, in conjunction with the Military Museums Calgary Library and Archives is proud to spearhead The Canadian Military Histories Digitization Project.

This collection has been accumulated through the generous support of Canadian Aboriginal peoples who have served in the military. It has been assited financially with a grant from Museums Alberta.

Working in partnership with the University of London, UK and the War Office Library of Great Britain, this important collection will make accessible published and archival histories and photographs that are related to service in or for Canada. The British and Canadian Regiments, naval ships and air force squadrons will be featured among the outstanding collection of historical images and documents.

This year we recognize the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. Remembrance events and activities will be held across Canada and in the Netherlands, providing opportunities for Canadians to learn about Canada's role in the liberation of the Netherlands.
