Private, 104th (New Brunswick) Regiment of Foot, circa 1810-1812

Caption: Private, 104th (New Brunswick) Regiment of Foot, circa 1810-1812

The 104th Foot was raised from 1803 in New Brunswick as the New Brunswick Regiment of Fencible Infantry. In 1810, at the regiment's request, it was transferred to the British regular establishment. This meant it could be deployed anywhere in the world instead of only North America. As it turned out, the new 104th regiment never left Canada but went on to serve with distinction against the Americans during the War of 1812. The uniform shown was worn at the beginning of the war but later changed. Worth noting are the buff breeches, a peculiarity of regiments with buff facings. Reconstruction by Derek Fitzjames.
