Caption: An American rifleman from Colonel Morgan's Regiment, circa 1775-1776

This rifleman wears the fringed hunting shirt characteristic of American woodsmen of the period. Morgan's company was raised from these men, and had a distinguised career during the American Revolution. It was one of the units that were part of Benedict Arnold's rebel army that invaded Canada in 1775. Although many of the unit were captured during a failed attempt to storm Quebec on 31 December 1775, Morgan was able to raise a successor regiment that fought at Saratoga. Reconstruction by G. A. Embleton. (Parks Canada)
