Soldiers of the 1st Regiment of Foot (Royal Scots) and 77th Regiment of Foot (Montgomery's Highlanders) mount their assault on Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland, in September 1762. This action led to the recapture of the settlement after its capture by the French for a fourth and final time in June 1762. With Signal Hill in their hands, the British forces had a strategic advantage over the French holding nearby Fort William. The invaders surrendered after a night of mortar bombardment from the Hill.
