Caption: Sir Jeffery Amherst, General in Chief of the British forces in North America in 1759
Sir Jeffery Amherst (later Baron Amherst) led the army that forced the French to withdraw from Ticonderoga that year in 1759. In 1760, he led the three Anglo-American armies that converged on Montreal in September 1760, forcing the final surrender of New France. This 1766 print shows Amherst wearing the star of a knight of the Order of the Bath, an honour he was given in 1761.
